Superintendent's Message

Dear Winchester Families:
Welcome back! The opening days of school have been smooth and happy. We continue to experience a few glitches with our bus routes, but expect to have these resolved shortly an thank you in advance for your patience.
  • My message to teachers and support staff members on opening day included the following: The administrative team’s summer read was a book called The Power of Positive Leadership, by Jon Gordon.  As a team, we have agreed to re-focus our efforts this year on leading with optimism, positivity, and belief. We know it is so easy to let the very real challenges and stresses of modern life influence us and our students in a negative way, but research has shown that approaching our work with positive energy can help transform our school cultures. I challenge you to start the school year on a positive note, slow things down a bit, find time for joy every day, and focus on your relationships with your students, each other, and those you care about most.
  • In the end, our students may remember only some of the content they were taught, but they will never forget the relationships they have built with their teachers. Please help us by encouraging your children to have a healthy, balanced approach to learning and to accept that some stumbles and failures are a natural part of growth. Let's reduce the pressure and anxiety that comes with trying to cram too much into a day and from moving too fast too soon.

  • My first superintendent's chat of the year will be held at 6:15 p.m. in the school committee meeting room at Parkhurst School on 9/25. This is an informal event where we can discuss general issues related to learning, schools, or the district overall. If you have specific questions related just to your child, it is better to set a separate meeting, first with the teacher or principal and then with me if needed
  • As always, our district Facebook page is a good source of information. I also post frequently on Twitter (@JudithEvans1).
With respect,

Judith A. Evans, Ed.D.
