The Winchester Public Schools (WPS) Transportation Department is dedicated to ensuring students' safe, efficient, and reliable transportation to and from school every day. Bus Registration for the 2024-2025 is closed. For new students enrolling at WPS please contact the Transportation Department to make a request for bus registration.

As part of your confirmation, you will receive an estimated pickup/dropoff time. During the first few weeks of school, students should expect to be at their stop at least 10 minutes before pickup as the times are confirmed.

During registration please select the closest bus stop location to your home to complete the registration process. Once complete, please email transportation@winchesterps.org with your address, student name(s), and any preferences you would like WPS to review.

You will be able to register for one of the following options:
“AM- Home to School (One Way)”
Select this option if your student only requires bus transportation to school in the morning.
“PM - School to Home (One Way)”
Select this option if your student only requires bus transportation home after school ends.
“PM - School to After-School Program (One Way)”
Select this option if your student only requires bus transportation to an after-school program once school ends.
“Home to School to Home (Round-Trip)”
Select this option if your student only requires bus transportation to school and from school each day.
“Home to school to After-School Program (Round-Trip)”
Select this option if your student only requires bus transportation to school in the morning and from school to an after-school program.

All bus riders must register for the bus every year. If your child is in grades K-6 and you live more than 2 miles from your school, your child is eligible for town-paid bus service. When we validate the distance, we check the shortest route to the school via Google Maps.

No printed bus passes will be provided for the school year. Once your student is assigned to a bus route, the school and bus driver will be notified that your student is eligible to ride the bus. Families will also be able to confirm bus assignments through our mobile application.

WPS does not pro-rate the transportation fee unless you move into the district during the school year.

Winchester Public Schools Transportation budget is based on ridership. As a result, refunds will be issued only under extraordinary circumstances.

No, transportation is not be provided for students who are open enrolled. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to provide transportation for those students who attend school out of their neighborhood district.

No. All questions related to scheduled bus stops must be directed to WPS.

Yes, parents should plan to meet the bus or arrange for a caretaker, sibling, friend, or older student to see them safely home. Parents should discuss which stop to get off with their children prior to the first day they will ride the bus. Parents are responsible for children’s safety and must be at the PM stop to receive their child or the child will be returned to the school.

Procedures for Drivers and Parents
In case of any misconduct on a bus, the incident will be reported on the proper form to the school principal or assistant principal. He/she will report the incident in writing to the parent concerned, with a copy to the transportation office.
In case of repetition by the same student, the principal or assistant principal will suspend the student’s transportation privileges with written notice to the parent. Bus privileges may be denied permanently if a third incident occurs, following a conference with the superintendent or designee. The responsibility for transportation will rest with the parent if the privilege is denied.
Loading and Unloading at Bus Stop
Riders must be on time. Bus drivers will not wait. Riders will enter or leave the bus at regular stops only. Orderly behavior and respect for private property will be required. Instructions and directions of the driver must be followed by the riders when entering or leaving the bus and while in transit.
Required Conduct Aboard the Bus
Riders must remain in their seats when the bus is in motion. Whistling and shouting are not permitted. Eating on the school bus is not permitted. Profanity and obscene language are forbidden. Smoking/drugs/alcohol are prohibited. Parents will be held responsible for any defacing or damaging of the bus.
The following disturbances are prohibited:
Harassment of others, bullying, pushing or wrestling, annoying other passengers or disturbing their possessions, talking to the driver, throwing objects within the bus or out the windows, climbing over seats, opening or closing windows, leaning out of windows, and littering.
The same standards of conduct and any written rules, which apply during the school day, will apply on the buses.
Please note: Parents of students suspended or expelled from the bus for misbehavior will not be eligible for a refund of bus fees paid.
Audio & Video Recordings
Each and every school bus owned, leased, contracted, and/or operated by the school district shall be equipped with a video camera - capable of recording audio and video. An audio/video recording of the actions of student passengers and/or employees may be used by the school district as evidence in any disciplinary action brought against any student or employee arising out of the student’s or employee’s conduct on the bus. Audio/video recordings will be viewed by school district personnel on a random basis and/or when discipline problems on the bus have been brought to the attention of the school district.
